Research Asisstants

Undergraduates can join the lab as volunteers, working as part of a team on a study where the study research coordinator will directly supervise them. Many students use this as an opportunity to receive course credit (PSY 357), for their honors thesis, or simply to gain experience to determine if a career in clinical psychology or applied disciplines is right for them.

“I completed my senior thesis while working with the Anxiety and Health Behaviors Lab. Working in this lab gave me valuable experience in clinical psychology research and helped me realize my passion for the subject. Getting hands-on research experience was pivotal in shaping my future goals, and gave me a deeper understanding of PTSD. From that understanding, my interest in future PTSD  research treatments grew. I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology after graduation, thanks to the skills, knowledge, and connections I acquired from this experience."

The University of Texas at Austin

Overall, the scientific environment at UT is excellent! The Department of Psychology has a long history of productivity and international visibility. Since its creation in 1927, the department has attracted stellar researchers and instructors, including several members of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences, presidents of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and dozens of more specialized academic organizations. The faculty secured more than $5 million in grant support in the last year alone. Our new building, a $52 million investment, boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment. In the most recent rankings, U.S. News & World Report listed the Department’s graduate program at 13th in the nation (clinical psychology was ranked 11th); a strong affirmation of the quality of our faculty, facilities, and education overall.
